Guidelines proposed by non-designers for the development of Printed Educational Materials in Health: context understanding

Abstract

The process of elaborating Printed Educational Materials (PEM) in Health requires the adequate definition of methods and instruments from which the PEM are to be developed. Certain contents of PEM can provide users with a better understanding of their health and illness condition, which is why the efficient support of the principles of Information Design can be favorable in this context. This study aimed to identify a framework of reference for the development of Health PEM analyzed under the light of Information Design. The methods applied in this study consisted of an integrative review carried out through a search on the “Portal de Periódicos da CAPES”, followed by the elaboration of synoptics tables identifying two categories: 1) guidelines for elaboration of PEM by Health Professionals, and 2) scenario of elaboration of PEM by health professionals in Brazil. The results show the need to anchor the process of preparing PEM in the principles of Information Design and provide groundwork for the construction of more efficient strategies and knowledge indexes.
